Don't worry if it looks unfamiliar at first, once you understand how the editor works, designing professional-quality products becomes surprisingly simple.
This guide walks you through every feature, from uploading your artwork to preparing your design for production.
⚡ Essential AOP Design Rules
- 2D Sewing Patterns: Every AOP product is displayed as a 2D sewing pattern. Instead of decorating a finished product, you're decorating the individual fabric pieces (front, back, lining, pocket, etc.) that will later be sewn together.
- Dashed Line (Safe Zone): Keep all important design elements inside the dashed line so they don't get lost in the stitching.
- Outer Edge (Bleed Allowance): Extend your design completely past the dashed line to the outer edge to avoid unprinted white gaps.
- Resolution Protection: Automatic warnings alert you if your file DPI drops below recommended quality standards.

1. Understanding the AOP Editor Layout
Before we start designing, let's quickly explore the editor interface.
Every tool has been placed to make designing faster and more accurate.

1. Decoration Method & Design Area
Select the product part currently being edited (Front / Back / Handles / Lining / Pocket / etc).
2. Upload Image & Add Text
Import your custom graphics or generate custom text directly on the product part.
3. Browse Designs & Patterns
Access your created designs or explore the Pattern Design pattern library.
4. Preview, Download & Delete
Preview design, download preview images, or delete selected artwork.
2. Guide 1: Uploading Your Own Designs
Once you upload your file, you’ll notice a carousel toolbar appears below the editor. Use the arrows on the sides to move between tools:

From this toolbar, you can:
- Adjust pattern repeat
- Change file size
- Align the image within the design area
Controlling File Resizing (Lock Icon): Between the Width and Height boxes, you’ll notice a lock icon that controls scaling behavior:
🔒 Locked Icon
Your file scales proportionally (keeping its original aspect ratio).
🔓 Unlocked Icon
You can freely adjust width and height independently for custom scaling.
This gives you full flexibility to match your design perfectly to the printable area.
3. Understanding AOP Product Editor - 2D Pattern Layout
All AOP products in the editor are shown as 2D sewing patterns and you can design each part of the product separately; for instance, let’s design an AOP Tote Bag together.
Designing the Front Side

| Pattern Boundary | How It Works |

| Within the Dashed Line | Represents stitching. Everything within this dashed line will be visible once the product is sewn. Ensure all important design elements are placed here so they don’t get lost into the stitching. |
| Outside the Dashed Line | Used as swing allowance for hemming, etc. Ensure you design the whole sewing pattern, including this bleed outside the dashed line, if you want to avoid any awkward non-printed areas. |
Designing the Back Side

When you’re satisfied with the front side, let’s move onto designing the back side of the tote bag. The same process as before should be used here.

Once you’re done with the back, let’s design front and back handles. The same process applies.
And that’s it - you successfully designed your AOP Tote Bag! You can now order it or save your product in the dashboard if you wish to export it to your integrated shop.
Adjusting Uploaded Files
If your file has a lower DPI than recommended, you’ll see a clear warning both above the editor and in a pop-up window when trying to add the file to your cart. This ensures that your print quality always meets the highest standards.

Saving and Reusing Designs
Clicking “Create Product” saves your design to your account. This allows you to:
- Quickly access it at any time
- Re-edit or resize it
- Reuse the same design across different products

If you make changes to an existing saved design, you can choose to save over the original or create a new product version — the choice is yours.

Guide 2: Using Ready-for-Print Designs by Pattern Design
We know that not everyone has their own designs ready — that’s why we’ve partnered with Pattern Design, giving you access to over 30,000 ready-for-print patterns created by more than 900 designers worldwide.
The best part? Each and every design can be recolored and personalized to perfectly match your brand or project.
How to add a design from Pattern Design:
- Click on the “Add Design” button in the toolbar and select “Clipart Patterns” from the dropdown menu.
- From there, you’ll discover 9 pattern collections, each containing subcategories based on appearance or theme — making it easy to browse and find exactly what you need.
- You can use the breadcrumb links at the top of the editor (e.g., Collections / Seasonal / Christmas Baby Fox) to easily navigate back to a previous category.
- Once you’ve found the perfect pattern for your project, you’ll see that the chosen design can be fully customized: Every element in the pattern can be recolored to any shade you like.
- When you’re happy with your selection, you can save your pattern to your account using the “Create Product” button — making it easy to revisit, re-edit, or apply the same design to other fabrics or products later on.
